Maimón es una comunidad puertoplateña que adquirió la designación legal de municipio en el año 2006, sin embargo esta es la fecha que Puerto Plata, como provincia a la cual pertenece este municipio, se niega a reconocer los derechos de Maimón a recibir los beneficios derivados de los impuestos recaudados en esa provincia del cibao. Por esa razón, los munícipes de Maimón organizaron una protesta pacífica en la carretera que conduce a Puerto Plata. Dicha protesta fue terminada violentamente por miembros de la Policía Nacional que se presentaron al lugar.
La policía realizó varios disparos, maltrató incluso a ancianos y mujeres y llegó al extremo de partirle la boca y la nariz al regidor Ramón Bonilla, presidente de la sala capitular del municipio de Maimón.
Mientras estos abusos ocurran, a mí que nadie me diga que vivimos en una sociedad civilizada. Queremos condenar un pasado que no vivimos pero ignoramos nuestro presente y nada hacemos para cambiarlo.
